New President of the Ramakrishna Order – Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj
Swami Smarananandaji Maharaj was elected as the President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission at the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Math and the Governing Body of the Mission held on  July 17, 2017. He is the 16th President of the Order.

Summer Schedule 

  • Beginning Wednesday morning, June 21, 2017, the Center’s daily and weekly activities will be suspended until FRIDAY, September 08.
  • The new session will begin on Sept. 9, 2017, with a day-long spiritual retreat by Pravrajika Satchitprana, a nun of Sri Sarada Math of India.  Click here for schedule & registration.
  • The LIBRARY and book-store will be open only on Tuesday evenings (July 11 – August 22) through the summer. Please return any/all books ASAP, so library inventory might be updated.

Past Events

Swami visits Pittsburgh and Alaska,  Fri June 23-July 04
Swami Yogatmananda visited Vedanta Society Pittsburgh, PA to conduct a retreat and deliver talks. From there, he traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to visit devotees and deliver talks.

Independence Day – July 04, 2017, 6:30 – 8:00PM
The program consisted of a reading from Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts on Mukti (Liberation – Freedom of the Soul), short talks by Swami Yogatmananda and Chester Boncek, singing of National Anthem, Swami Vivekananda’s poem – ‘To the Fourth of July’ and other songs. The program ended with pot-luck dinner. About 30 people attended.

Guru Poornima – Sun. July 09, 11:00AM – 4:00PM
About eighty devotees participated in the Guru-Purnima celebration from 11am – 1pm, which included worship and food & flower offering, singing, various readings, a short talk by Swami Yogatmananda and prasad luncheon.
This was followed by a concert from 2pm -4:00pm, by Suchita Rao and her students. Over one- hundred attended.

Silent Meditation Retreat – Fri. July 14, at 6:00 PM through  Sun. July 16  at  5:00PM
This was a week-end residential meditation retreat. Fifteen devotees participated.

Swami Vimokshananda from Singapore visits
The Swami was in Providence for two days. On Fri. July 21, he gave a talk on ‘Living a Spiritual Life’ from 7:30 – 8:30pm.
Forty devotees attended.

Residential Young Adult Retreat – Fri. July 28, 6:00PM through Sun. July 30, 1:00PM
Topic : Exploring Possibilities (Readings, meditation, discussion, yoga). 15 young adults + 1 child attended the retreat. Programs included prayers, meditation, readings, classes, group-discussion, participant-presentation, question-answer session, Karma Yoga (doing various works at the Society). A video ‘Samadhi’ was screened on Sat afternoon. All liked the retreat.

Music Concert – Sun. Jul. 30, 6:30 – 8:00PM
Anita Kulkarni presented Indian Classical Vocal Music Concert, with Nishikant Sonwalkar accompanying on Tabla.
About twenty-five people attended.

Synopses of Past Classes

Study Class on – Khalil Gibran’s ‘The Prophet’ – Jul. 11, 18, 25, and Aug 01.
On Jul 11, there was the introductory class, giving the biographical information on Khalil Gibran and a general outline of the book ‘The Prophet’. Jul 18: The Prophet Almustafa stayed for 12 years and now comes the moment to depart to his divine abode. The people in the town were urging him not to leave them, as he had become like piece of their heart. He too knew that his heart will also ache while departing, but still he must go. Almitra asked him to give advice to the people before going. 25th Jul the message on Love was discussed and 1st Aug it was about Marriage and Children.
